I had the urge to share some more cake photos, so please bear with me. After a long day, I turned to one of my all-time favorite blogs, Cake Wrecks. This always provides me with a good laugh.

If you have been living in a cave and don't know about this site, you must immediately go there now!!

Or, drive over to your local book store or library and get the book. But I'm warning you, I stood by myself at Borders one afternoon, laughing out loud. It was a little embarrassing.

I kinda have a thing for cakes with monsters or cute little ghosts (if you couldn't already tell), so that's what you're seeing here. Don't even get me started on zombie cakes!

Newsflash! Here is a video of the first wedding officiated by a robot.

Even though the ceremony is in Japanese and I didn't understand a word of it, I was intrigued/disturbed when I heard the robot "speaking."

Is the voice of a 6-year-old girl really the best they could do??

A Reading That Will Induce Giggling

My Celebrant colleagues are fantastic people! I love that they are open to sharing ideas and giving advice.

Well, recently one of my colleagues was looking for funny readings for a couple she was marrying. Several people gave her suggestions, but my favorite came from the wonderful and creative New Jersey Celebrant, Cristina Kollet.

She suggested using a selection from the book, I Like You by Sandol Stoddard Warburg. I love this! Thanks for the idea, Cristina!

Here are some excerpts, which I think would be wonderful for a wedding ceremony:

Wedding laughs!

When the Big Day finally arrives, even the most calm and collected people can get a bit nervous.
I have seen this lead to a few (unintentionally) memorable moments during the ceremony!
But, none have been quite like this. Notice the bride's reaction when the groom says "waffly wedded."

Is is time for cake yet? Maybe I'll just sample a bit... I'm sure they won't mind..

Groomsman on Ukulele

So, besides my cupcake issue, my other love is .... the UKULELE!!

I bought my own uke last year - she's purple and her name is Violet. And I love her.

Anyways, I was disappointed to have missed Jake Shimabukuro's show at Tiki Terrace today. So, to console myself I sat here watching ukulele videos. Imagine my delight when I came across this video: a groomsman's tribute to the bride and groom -performed with his ukulele.

Now that is one cool guy!

Caricature Couples!

One of my favorite couples (and all-around fun & wonderful people!), Steve and Gizelle, had a fabulous wedding at the Catalyst Ranch a few weeks ago.

One of the fun treats they offered their guests was portraits done by local Chicago artist Ellen Lustig.

Ellen created funny caricatures of the guests - and, as you can see here, she did a great drawing of the wedding couple!

Laugh While You Plan Your Wedding!

Having been on a reading frenzy, I picked up the book, "The Longest Aisle - An Offbeat Guide to Wedding Planning" by Richard Mintzer. Truth be told, I thought this was a "real" wedding planning guide when I found it at the library. It turned out to be a spoof of the usual guide book, with very funny do's and don'ts and great (but also goofy!) tips.

One of my favorite parts of the book was "Money Saving Tips." These wonderfully silly suggestions include:

• Finger foods are less expensive..... try the new McWedding hors d'oeuvres.
• Hang out at the local hospital and "borrow" flowers from rooms when patients are sleeping.
• Hamburger Helper can make your main course go a long way.
• Pick up thrown rice and boil it to be served as a side dish.
• Sixteen Sarah Lee cakes smashed together and covered with frosting look just like any other wedding cake.
• Make your wedding invitations an assignment for a local fifth-grade arts and crafts class.
  

Another favorite was "Problems You May Run Into When a Friend or Family Member Plans Your Wedding." These issues include:

• You don't agree on balloon animals as centerpieces at a formal affair.
• She ends up marrying the groom.
• She forgets to invite your parents.
• Your mom plans it and invites a different groom ... of her own choosing.

So, if you need a laugh to ease the pre-wedding stress, browse through this book. You may not find any helpful advice, but you'll probably get a good chuckle. Enjoy!

Who's Afriad of the Big Bad Bride?

I just discovered the fabulous website Bridezilla, which was named one of the Top 100 Wedding Blogs to Follow in 2009 by BrideTide.com.

The blog offers great advice and some pretty darn funny articles. I laughed out loud when I read You Might Be a Bridezilla If..., which offers "21 Signs You're a Bridezilla."


Some of my favorites:

6.) You were banned from having your wedding in a church because you suggested they replace a sacred statue with a life-size portrait of you.

9.) You held an open casting call for "rosy-cheeked flower girls with prior wedding experience." Your sniffling niece with the underbite just won't do.

13.) Your cake is an exact replica of yourself.

17.) Your veil is hand-spun from real angel hair.

Hello, World! Come see the coolest cake ever!

Okay, maybe it's a tad presumptuous to greet the entire world, but I'm feeling somewhat ambitious at the moment.

This is my first foray into blogging, so I wanted to make it GOOD.

So, I am now (drum roll, please) going to introduce you to my absolute favorite wedding cake EVER, found at CakeWrecks, the hilarious blog that immortalizes baking mishaps, disasters, and well.... wrecks.

The coveted cake may be on the website but, far from being a wreck - it's a masterpiece! It's the clever, creative wedding cake from the very cool wedding of Nikki Rice & David Malki. Don't you wish you were invited to this wedding? I know, me too. I even have a pair of hightops that would match my dress. Sigh.
